Kevin Oakes has stepped down as president of SumTotal.
- “As several of you already know, after almost 9 years with this company (under 3 different names), I’ve made a difficult decision to resign from SumTotal. In consultation with our board of directors over the last several weeks, I have agreed to stay with the company through 5/31 to help with the transition, and have also agreed to continue as a SumTotal board member. At the board’s request, I will also be available to the company under a retained consulting agreement for the next couple of years. My resignation – and other aspects of my separation – was reported in our quarterly earnings release and filed publicly on Monday. “
Next up, a probably unrelated article from CFO, forwarded along by Marc Rosenberg , What’s Wrong with Finance Training…And how some companies are finding ways to make it work.
- Marc says companies “launch programs or events with great fanfare and then say, ‘Well, we delivered it, we gave them a feedback form, and they liked it.’ Then people go back to the same bad work environments, where they don’t have the tools or reinforcement they need to carry what they’ve learned over to their jobs, and no experts to turn to if they have a problem. Those organizations are not designed or structured to support what employees have learned in class.”
And from Information Week, “You’ve got a lotta splanin to do”
- The longer I’m at this, the more I’m convinced that poor communication is at the heart of the chasm that has always existed between IT and business people. I’m not blaming ITers for the existence of this problem, of course, but I am saying that you can go a long way toward fixing it. And if you don’t do it, nobody will.
