Check out the new blog on Learning Architecture from the eLearning Forum (which has become a part of the Human Capital Institute.) The new site has a link back to the old eLearning Forum site, and the archives are a walk down memory lane.
In late 1999, a bunch of us — Eilif Trondsen, Marcia Conner, Mark Cavender, James Levine, Josh Bersin, John Bueller, and others — spent the better part of two days trying to agree on a common definition of eLearning. Back then elf was Sven, a fitting name, given Eilif’s Norwegian heritage.
In case you’re wondering, no, we didn’t arrive at a conclusion.
Of course, the precise definition of eLearning is still up in the air. I concluded long ago that debating the semantics of eLearning is a waste of breath, but it certainly felt like the right thing to do at the time.
When you visit the HCI/eLF blog, be sure to check out Laleh Shahidi’s Collaborative Learning Blog, too.

That was 9 years ago? Seems like just yesterday. I remember walking around the parking lot with Jimm Meloy (then of Autodesk) trying to make sense of not just the technology or the learning but of the motives and perspectives of the people both in the room and around the larger table. Those were important conversations and a terrific group to be working through this with. Thank you for the pictures and the reminder.
